Human trash has now found its way into the deepest depths, through the water column and on top of the surface of every ocean and moderate sized water body in the world. The volume and makeup of this refuse threatens the health of wildlife globally and locally. Marine and bird life are unable to protect themselves from human debris but we can!
We start at 8 AM to clean up a designated 210m stretch of beach (see attached map). You can join us on the beach later if you like, but we are often done by 9:30. Afterwards we'll take a photo, have a snack, and some of us will sort the debris into categories. This ongoing monthly beach debris clearance and analysis project has been running continuously for over ten years. We have literally removed and sorted tons of plastics from the bay and collected a data set that is likely unique along the west coast of Baja if not all of North America. We could use your help! The whole event is usually complete by 10-11:00. Directions below.
Directions
Parking is available at the pinned location in Mar Azul. The attached map shows the general beach area that we'll be cleaning up and the location where we'll meet and sort the debris is the dad end road between the beach and the parking spot. See link and map below.
