John Kinabrew is leading up the creation of a community visitor center in Cantu! It will be across from the Pharmacia Santa Fe in Cantu and THE GROUNDBREAKING IS THIS SATURDAY, JUNE 13, AT NOON!
The Community Nature and Information Center of Punta Banda/Cantu will be a place to share information with each other and visitors about the community the local environment that the community values. Stories are powerful. The stories we tell in this center will shape the future! But first, let's build the structure!
Participate directly in the construction of the center on the afternoon of this Saturday, June 13 and all day Sunday, June 14. We can use wall and sign painters, rough carpenters, and spotters as well as ladders and cordless tools such as drills, saws, screwdrivers, etc. Important note: there is no electricity at the site.
So far John has received approximately 14,000 pesos through a plant sale and generous donations from local individuals and organizations. This is enough to build the structure and some basic exhibits! THANK YOU!
The Alliance may assist in designing the nature exhibits after construction is complete. If so, we will ask for input from the community.
The community center needs your local knowledge. One volunteer opportunity is to create an educational or promotional brochure about an activity or local subject you know and care about.
We will need your help with translation: help bridge the language divide by translating interpretive materials from Spanish to English or vice versa.
