This month the Punta Banda Birding Club will gather on October 10, to coincide with October Big Day! Every year the Cornell Lab of Ornithology organizes October Bird Day, when people from all over the world meet at their local birding spots and count as many bird species they see in a single day. The information collected from October Bird Day is used by scientists studying bird distributions worldwide. So this is an opportunity to participate in valuable citizen science.
While the Punta Banda Birding Club meets monthly as a local group led by Debbie Taylor and El Berryman, in October our excursion will be led by Mujeres en Parvada, a highly experienced group of Mexican wildlife biologists and birding experts who are keen on educating folks about birds and their habitats. We’ll be touring the Punta Banda estuary, including marsh and beach habitats.
The event will be bilingual and very suitable for children, so if you know any local children who might enjoy it, please bring them along!
Meet at the parking lot for Gertrude Pearlman Theater (Campo La Jolla) at 8 am and we’ll carpool from there. If you would prefer to join us later (while most locals leave before noon, the Mujeres often go all day!) , please call or message El Berryman at (530) 798-1945 and I can tell you where to find us. Bring binoculars if you have them, but we have extras you can borrow. Hope to see you there!
